GLORIA ISABEL RAMOS TRIANO

Connection to the Canary Islands and Support for Local Musical Creation

Gloria Isabel Ramos Triano maintains a profound and enduring commitment to the musical life of the Canary Islands. Her relationship with the archipelago is central to both her artistic development and her professional career. She began her musical studies at the Conservatory of Tenerife, where she specialised in piano, cello and harmony under the guidance of influential teachers such as conductor and composer Armando Alfonso and cellist Rafael Ramos. She was also a member of the Conservatory’s Youth Orchestra as a cellist—an experience that strengthened her vocation and was further enriched by attending rehearsals of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, particularly under the direction of Edmon Colomer, whose musicality left a lasting impression on her early formation.

During her teenage years, the International Music Festival of the Canary Islands offered her the opportunity to hear world‑renowned artists who broadened her musical horizons. Among them, the presence of Maestro Claudio Abbado was especially significant, shaping her understanding of music in a decisive way. At the same time, the visit of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to the archipelago revealed to her a new approach to music‑making—one based on absolute listening and the shared energy between performers. The ensemble’s sonic perfection and the way the concertmaster guided the collective direction left a deep and lasting mark on her own musical vision.

From the very beginning of her career, she has maintained close collaborations with the two principal symphonic ensembles of the islands: the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, with which she made her conducting debut after having won the Opera Conducting Prize at the Besancon Competition, and the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, which has invited her on numerous occasions. These partnerships have played a fundamental role in her artistic trajectory and have firmly established her presence in the cultural life of the Canary Islands.

She has recorded orchestral works by the Canarian composers Carlos Guigou and Santiago Tejera, and has conducted concert performances of music by Dori Díaz Jerez, Emilio Coello, Manuel Bonino and other contemporary creators from the archipelago, thereby contributing to the dissemination and recognition of Canarian music beyond its borders.
Her collaborations with distinguished soloists from the islands — including Benito Cabrera, the Curbelo brothers, Guillermo González, Agustín León Ara and Gustavo Díaz Jerez — have further strengthened the international projection of Canarian musical talent.

As a Composer, Two of her works have also been recorded:

-
the Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, performed by Pierluigi Bernhard and Ascensión Manzano
-
and one of the songs from her cycle “…los colores del tiempo…”, recorded by the unforgettable soprano María Orán with pianist Chiky Martín

Die Orquesta Filarmónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria programmierte ihr Symphonische Ouverture amazon im Jahr 2022.
